I began wood-turning at the beginning of 2016, a few years after retiring from a career in contracts negotiations and administration.  I find it wonderful that the design and style skills I developed in the field of ceramics have so much application in the craft of wood-turning.

Wood is a beautiful medium for both functional and decorative uses.

Arizona is very dry and many beautiful timbers crack when they have been in Arizona very long. I did not want to discard the cracked items or to turn them down to get rid of the cracks so I use an inlay material which allows me to use many of these otherwise difficult items, In many instances the use of the inlay material not only makes the wood usable but it also enhances its appearance .

The inlay material that I use was sold by a fellow wood-turner who would order bulk sizes of the materials because they were not available in small quantities.  He began selling the extra material to members of our local club and then started selling to other turners outside of Tucson.

He has decided he wanted to be able to devote more of his time to his interest in wood-turning, and has allowed me to take over that portion of his inlay material so others can continue to enjoy using the material that he developed and so now I can occasionally pick up an additional turning tool or two
